Where the blog’s title comes from

April 18, 2007 at 11:06 pm (Title of blog)

I took the title from a poem by children’s author and illustrator Arnold Lobel:

“Books to the ceiling, books to the sky.

My piles of books are a mile high.

How I love them!

How I need them!

I’ll have a long beard by the time I read them.”

This poem, along with Lobel’s delightful illustration, can be found in Whiskers & Rhymes.

LOL, that had me giggling. It used to be a dream of mine to have a library of my own.. If he hadnt written this I would have sans the last line… I would have probably said “I’ll have a head full of silver by the time I read them”

I know this sounds like a blatant advertisement, but you can get Lobel’s poem, with his original illustration, as a poster from us. I used to read Whiskers & Rhymes to our kids when they were small, and I always wished this poem was available as a poster. It wasn’t – so we decided to do it ourselves.
