Addio, Luciano

I weep for Pavarotti; he is dead…

pav.jpg I get out my two-CD set of Pavarotti’s Greatest Hits (London/Decca 417 011-2). They’re all there: “Nessun Dorma” from Turandot, “Recondita Armonia” from Tosca, “Di quella pira” from Il Trovatore, and so much more. My two favorite selections – how often I’ve played them over the years! – are the “Ingemisco” from Verdi’s Requiem, and Panis Angelicus by Cesar Franck. This is music to make the soul soar, above sorrow, above death.

We weep for Pavarotti – but we will treasure these gifts of his forever!
