I knew that some day soon I would wake up to this news…

Nevertheless, the news of Ted Kennedy’s passing came as a jolt.

For some of us who came of age in the 60’s, it feels like the end of an era.

I heard someone on the radio yesterday saying that with both John and Bobby struck down so young, we shouldn’t feel so badly that Teddy made it to 77, but that we do. We feel that he was taken too young, that he still had so much to do. The testimonials that have been coming into the radio (I just listen to NPR) from average people are amazing. A man who wanted close Red Sox tickets for his diabetic father because he couldn’t walk – he had tried for ages and couldn’t get them. He talked to Ted and had them two weeks later he had the tickets. People saying that when they went to his office, he treated them as if they were the only people – that they were important. Have you heard of the book, The Last Lion – the Fall and Rise of Ted Kennedy?

Thanks for this, Nan. I too heard the story about the Red Sox tickets. I also just read that his remains have passed by motorcade from Cape Cod to the Basilica in Boston. Apparently the streets were lined with mourners as the procession passed.

I have heard of The Last Lion & would like to read it.
