Looking ahead: the coming year in reading: historical mysteries

For this reader, 2013 might well be the year of historical mysteries. These are a few that are looking good to me right now:

Kate Williams wrote ENGLAND’S MISTRESS, a biography of Emma Hamilton, which I greatly enjoyed.

I was a bit uncertain at the beginning, but I am now well and truly hooked. This mystery is set in England’s West Country, shortly before the outbreak of the First World War. Stephen Gallagher writes with a sort of measured understatement that I find extremely appealing.

Reviews for each of the above titles can be found at Kirkus.
